COMMITMENT TO QUALITY

The cardiologists of FVCC are committed to assuring each patient experience exceeds expectations, that our staff is knowledgeable and that our services are consistent with national standards. Here are a few of these indicators:

NCQA Certification

Santosh Gill, M.D., medical director of the Women's Heart Center has received recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) for providing quality care to her patients.

The recognition, which is valid for three years, measures physicians' performance in key areas of cardiovascular and stroke care. Each physician's quality data is reviewed to determine if the program's key cardiovascular and stroke care measures are met, including blood pressure and cholesterol control.

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations, recognizes physicians and physician groups in key clinical areas and manages the evolution of HEDIS, the tool the nation 's health plans use to measure and report on their performance.

Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL)

ICANL accreditation is a means by which general nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology, and PET facilities can evaluate and demonstrate the level of patient care they provide.

The Standards used are an extensive compilation of documents defining the minimal requirements for nuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology laboratories to provide high quality care. Routinely revised by the ICANL Board Of Directors to reflect current practices, The Standards are used by laboratories as the foundation to create and achieve realistic quality care goals.

Completion of the application for accreditation requires information on all aspects of laboratory operation as well as the submission of actual case studies for review. After the application is submitted to the ICANL, it undergoes a confidential peer-review by the ICANL's trained reviewers, including physicians and technologists, before a final decision is made by the Board Of Directors.
